This one should be a real thriller in terms of the hostility and the entertainment on the pitch as two of Ligue 1’s pretenders, struggling to keep pace with Paris Saint-Germain at the top-of-the-table, meet at Stade Velodrome.

Marseille Preview: De Zerbi pressure

After another summer revolution with former Brighton and Hove Albion, Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi at the helm, Olympique de Marseille have been extremely frustrating this season with a strong squad and abundance of attacking quality mixing very impressive performances with the occasional humiliation.

They begin the weekend sitting tucked inside the top three but nine points adrift of league leaders PSG in Ligue 1. Their most recent outing saw one of them very impressive performances as they defeated Will Still’s Lens by three goals to one up in the north last weekend thanks to goals from Valentin Rongier, Luiz Henrique and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Monaco Preview: Frustration for Hutter

Former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter has done a very good job in charge of Monaco in the last 12-15 months or so with a second place finish and entertaining football last season being followed up with similar form this time around as they begin the match day sitting a point and a place ahead of Marseille.

The Monagasque, though, did suffer a surprise 3-2 loss at home to Benfica in the UEFA Champions League in midweek after they did lead 2-1 with not that much time left in the match. Their form has dropped off in the last month or so with five victories, two draws and three defeats in their last ten matches across all competitions.

Marseille Team News: No Harit

Marseille have a deep squad but they need that at the moment with several injury absentees now including Morocco international attacking midfielder Amine Harit.

Cameroonian international attacker Faris Moumbagna is also sidelined alongside the likes of Derek Cornelius and Pol Lirola as well as Valentin Carboni.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Rongier, Balerdi, Ulisses Garcia; Hojbjerg, Kondogbia, Rabiot; Greenwood, Maupay, Luiz Henrique

Unavailable: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Pol Lirola (Injured), Cornelius (Injured), Harit (Injured), Carboni (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)

Monaco Team News: Diatta injury

Monaco have had injury issues to Mohammed Salisu and Denis Zakaria to deal with throughout this season but both are now fully fit and available for the visitors.

They do still have some attacking issues and one of them is a fresh absentee is Krepin Diatta alongside summer signing Edan Diop for this weekend’s clash at the Velodrome.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Majecki; Vanderson, Kehrer, Salisu, Mawissa; Zakaria, Magassa; Akliouche, Ben Seghir, Golovin; Embolo

Unavailable: Diop (Injured), Diatta (Injured)

Marseille vs Monaco Prediction

Roberto De Zerbi is a controversial character with some controversial moments peppered into this season and he has had a few debates already with Marseille players and supporters but they are performing better than they did last season before his arrival. Monaco will go to the Velodrome looking to exploit a potential hostility already aimed at Marseille’s own players and there is a potential that a real thriller breaks out in this one down on the south coast of France.

Marseille vs Monaco Tip: Over 2.5 goals
