This should be a fascinating clash and is extremely intriguing as a strong Lille side travel down to the Stade Velodrome to face Roberto De Zerbi’s Olympique de Marseille this weekend.

Marseille Preview: Marseille’s form

Former Brighton and Hove Albion, Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi has Brighton and Hove Albion pushing towards the top of Ligue 1, sitting just five points behind unbeaten league leaders Paris Saint-Germain ahead of this weekend’s match day.

Marseille come into this one on the back of a much-improved run of form since the November international break with their 2-0 defeat of Saint-Etienne at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard making it three successive victories since the break when De Zerbi seemed on the verge of departure.

Lille Preview: Difficult to defeat

Despite the departure of Paulo Fonseca to AC Milan over the summer, Lille have, if anything, improved over the course of this season with the appointment of former Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais boss Bruno Genesio proving to be an impressive one thus far.

The visitors come into this one on the back of an impressive run of form whereby they sit tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots in Ligue 1, most recently defeating Stade Brest by three goals to one domestically last weekend.

Marseille Team News: Several injuries

Marseille are dealing with several injury concerns for this weekend ahead of the visit of Lille. Attackers Valentin Carboni and Faris Moumbagna remain sidelined with key men such as Chancel Mbemba and Amine Harit both injury doubts, too.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Balerdi, Kondogbia; Luis Henrique, Rongier, Hojbjerg, Merlin; Greenwood, Rabiot; Maupay

Unavailable: Carboni (Injured), Moumbagna (Injured)

Questionable: Ruben Blanco (Injured), Mbemba (Injured), Pol Lirola (Injured), Harit (Injured)

Lille Team News: Still no Angel

England international Angel Gomes has enjoyed an impressive rise to prominence over the last 18 months or so but the former Manchester United midfielder remains sidelined for this weekend alongside the likes of Tiago Santos and Ethan Mbappe.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Chevalier; Mandi, Diakite, Alexsandro, Gudmundsson; Mukau, Andre; Zhegrova, Haraldsson, Fernandez-Pardo; David

Unavailable: Umtiti (Injured), Santos (Injured), Bentaleb (Illness), Ang. Gomes (Injured), Mbappe (Injured)

Questionable:

Marseille vs Lille Prediction

We have fire and ice meeting at the Stade Velodrome this weekend. Since switching to a back three system, Marseille have been much-improved and a little more controlled but they will need to be tactically and emotionally controlled once again this weekend against a Lille side that will seek to dominate possession but also have the defensive stability to withstand pressure and play on the counter-attack with Edon Zhegrova and Jonathan David. Both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
