With just one victory in their last 12 matches across all competitions, the pressure is very much on Pep Guardiola and Manchester City as they now welcome a belligerent Everton to the Etihad.

Man City Preview: Pressure on Pep

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side, awaiting the verdict of the investigation into their 115 financial charges, have sunk to outside of the top six ahead of Christmas after a couple of months in which they have been one of the very worst teams in the Premier League.

The Cityzens come into this one on the back of a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park in their most recent outing with Phil Foden scoring a late consolation for the champions in a game in which both Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers had dominated proceedings until that point.

Everton Preview: The sticky Toffees

Sean Dyche was, and probably still is, under pressure at Goodison Park, especially with the Friedkin Group finally now taking over the club as the Toffees headed into a potentially disastrous December but their dogged and determined style is stabilising the strugglers.

The Merseyside Derby against league leaders Liverpool was postponed and they have followed up avoiding defeat in that one by earning a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal before then holding Chelsea to a goalless draw at the weekend, too.

Man City Team News: Defensive injuries

John Stones had to once again be substituted at Villa Park just a couple of days after Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ruben Dias was confirmed as being out for three or four weeks. Ederson also missed out the other day with Guardiola saying ‘he does not feel good’.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Lewis, Walker, Akanji, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Gundogan; Silva, De Bruyne, Grealish; Haaland

Unavailable: Dias (Injured), Ake (Injured), Stones (Injured), Rodri (Injured), Bobb (Injured)

Man City vs Everton Prediction

Manchester City need a reaction and a response but, in terms of modern day football, their collapse from where they were to where they are after these couple of months has been unprecedented. Performances are declining, results have collapsed and players look both emotionally and physically fatigued. Everton have just shared back-to-back goalless draws with pretenders to the title race and they will fancy their chances of frustrating City, too, despite Sean Dyche’s poor record against Guardiola. City have to win, especially at home, but even if they do manage to get over the line it is unlikely to be convincing.
