Key stats

  • The most recent meetings between these teams were in the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup, when a 2-0 home win for Lithuania in October 2016 was followed by a 1-1 draw in Malta in October 2017.
  • Malta have won only one of their last 26 World Cup qualifying matches (D3 L22).
  • Lithuania have won only one of their last 17 World Cup qualifying matches (D2 L14).

Malta vs Lithuania prediction

Malta, under the management of Italian coach Emilio De Leo, most recently suffered a 2-0 loss to Poland at the National Stadium in Warsaw in their most recent outing. That followed up a slender 1-0 loss to Finland in their opening qualifier, having finished second in Group 2 of League D of the UEFA Nations League in the autumn.

They now face a Lithuania side that endured a miserable UEFA Nations League League C Group 2 campaign with six successive losses, going down into League D. The Lithuanians started European qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 loss to Poland and then an impressive and surprising 2-2 draw with Finland a few days’ later.

Both Malta and Lithuania showed themselves to be stubborn in their opening couple of qualifiers, so that might result in a low-scoring affair in the Maltese capital.

Malta vs Lithuania tip: Under 2.5 goals
