Mallorca Preview: Majorcan madness
Over the summer, Real Mallorca lost manager Javier Aguirre as he was appointed manager of the Mexican national team with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in mind. He was replaced by Jago Arrasate, formerly of Osasuna, with an intent to play a more progressive and attacking style of football and that has been the case.
In their most recent outing, the Balearic Islanders defeated resurgent and in-form Las Palmas by three goals to two in the Canary Islands last weekend. Mallorca went 2-0 up in that game before being pegged back but they managed to snatch all three points at Estadio Gran Canaria thanks to a 91st minute winner from Johan Mojica.
Valencia Preview: Finding spirit
The last month in Valencia has been dominated by the deathly flooding that has caused a lot of damage and been the result of several deaths in the city and region of Valencia. Football matters on the pitch have taken a massive backseat but supporters have still shown unrest at owner Peter Lim, who eventually said he’d financially help out the city based on how many tickets were sold last week.
Last week saw them return to action for the first time since the flooding and Valencia pulled off an entertaining 4-2 defeat of Real Betis at Mestalla to lift themselves off the bottom-of-the-table. They then edged past Parla Escuela in the first round of the Copa dal Rey in midweek.
Mallorca Team News: Several issues
Vedat Muriqi was sent off in their clash with Las Palmas for reacting to provocation with a middle finger to his opponents and subsequently red carded by VAR.
As well as the absence of the big Kosovo international striker, Mallorca are also dealing with a couple of key defensive injuries with no Antonio Raillo and Toni Lato.
Predicted XI (4-4-1-1): Greif; Mateu Morey, Valjent, Copete, Johan Mojica; Ruben Navarro, Manu Morlanes, Costa, Sergi Darder; Dani Rodriguez; Larin
Unavailable: Antonio Raillo (Injured), Toni Lato (Injured), Abdon (Injured), Muriqi (Suspended)
Questionable: Ivan Cuellar (Injured), Asano (Injured)
Valencia Team News: Pepelu suspension
Pepelu scored the winner in that aforementioned midweek cup match but remains suspended for this weekend after being sent off a couple of weeks ago.
Rafa Mir is out with a thigh injury but also remains internally suspended by the club as a result of an ongoing investigation into the striker having sexually assaulted someone.
Predicted XI (5-4-1): Mamardashvili; Foulquier, Carlos Tarrega, Cristhian Mosquera, Gasiorowski, Jose Luis Gaya; Luis Rioja, Barrenechea, Javi Guerra, Diego Lopez; Hugo Duro

Mallorca vs Valencia Prediction
These two sides were involved in thrillers last weekend that consisted of 11 goals with Mallorca’s last-gasp win in Gran Canaria and Valencia’s emotional win at Mestalla. Mallorca are trying to make more attacking and progressive football their modus operandi, whilst the Valencians were perhaps carried by a surge of emotion. That said, there did appear a better balance and cohesion to their counter-attacking play. Given that, both teams scoring may well be a good bet for this one at Son Moix.
