Mainz Preview: Brutal swing

Mainz’s surprise loss against lowly Hoffenheim, combined with RB Leipzig’s win over Wolfsburg was enough to see Mainz drop out of the top four and into fifth-place in the table. They’ve now failed to win their last four in the league, picking up just two points.

They are still overachieving though as a club and to just be in the hunt for a historic Champions League place at the moment is a huge deal for the hosts and the fans are responding to that.

Wolfsburg Preview: Running out of steam

Wolfsburg are having a bad time of things are present and their loss at the hands of RB Leipzig in the previous round of Bundesliga fixtures was their fourth league defeat in a row and they are still yet to reach the 40-point mark.

Despite that, Wolfsburg are still a whopping 16 points clear of the top three, effectively guaranteeing their remain in the German top flight for next season, although it does leave the visitors’ season in danger of petering out entirely.

Mainz vs Wolfsburg Prediction

Mainz and Wolfsburg are each desperately seeking to end their respective winless streaks and it would be no surprise to see a match lacking quality as a result, with the recent struggles of both likely weighing on the minds of the respective squads. But what Mainz have in their favour is home advantage which should give them a big boost. Against an opponent perhaps losing motivation a little towards the end of the campaign, it’s worth backing Mainz to come out on top.
