Mainz Preview: Without A Win In Last Four Across All Competitions

Mainz have picked up two points from the last nine available to them in the Bundesliga, whilst the past few weeks has also seen them knocked out of the DFB-Pokal at the hands of Bayern Munich. It doesn’t get any easier for them here against Borussia Dortmund, although they do have home advantage in their favour.

Only two points above the bottom three as it stands, this is an important match for the hosts as they try to avoid becoming one of those teams sucked into that dreaded relegation mix. Especially when considering the away form of their opponents.

Borussia Dortmund Preview: Five Straight Losses On The Road

Borussia Dortmund come into this latest contest under genuine pressure, having lost each of their last five away matches in all competitions spanning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League. Whilst they sit fifth-place in the table, it is their home form which has been propping up Nuri Sahin’s side.

The likes of Augsburg, Stuttgart and Union Berlin have already beaten Dortmund at home, although the flip side is that BVB have already won twice this week, albeit on their own ground, defeating both RB Leipzig in a crucial league game and Sturm Graz in the Champions League.

Mainz Team News: Unchanged XI From Last Weekend Likely

With defenders Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Moritz Jenz both still missing through injury and a gutsy showing against Freiburg last time out, it would be no surprise if Bo Henriksen stuck with the same starting line-up who earned a point in Germany's 'Black Forest'.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Zentner; Kohr, Bell, Leitsch; Caci, Sano, Amiri, Mwene; Nebel, Burkardt, Lee

Unavailable: Hanche-Olsen (Injured), Jenz (Injured)

Mainz Vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction

This simply has to be the game that Borussia Dortmund turn things around on the road. They have no excuses not to do so, boasting a stronger team than Mainz and more than adequate depth within their squad to get the job done. Mainz haven’t been easy to beat all season, but have already lost at home to both RB Leipzig (league) and Bayern Munich (cup) over the last few weeks. Backing Dortmund to triumph in this one is well worth backing.
