Lucia Bronzetti suffered an early loss at the Charleston Open to begin her clay court season. She lost a tight match to Zhang Shuai 7-5 5-7 6-4 in the first round and must hope for an improvement in her fortunes at this event.
Her form before that was middling at best, with a third-round appearance at Indian Wells before defeat to Aryna Sabalenka and a loss in the second-round of Miami to Maria Sakkari.
The Italian will take on Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah in the first-round. She is ranked 290 in the world and hasn’t played on the WTA Tour this season. Her last events were a couple of WTA 125s in December, which saw her not even reach the semi-finals in either competition.
Bronzetti is not in the best of form but we can’t see anything other than a thoroughly comfortable win in the first round. She should be able to pick up her first win on clay this season.
