Lorenzo Musetti will be eager to play well knowing that with Jannik Sinner in the other singles match, if he wins, he will likely seal their progression with victory here.
His record in the Davis Cup is not the best as he has won two and lost four of his six singles matches. The 22-year-old comes into these Finals after a strong 2024 and he will be desperate to play his part here. There will however be a degree of pressure likely put on himself to make a contribution although that is likely why the Italians have chosen him to play this opening match to potentially relieve a bit of pressure.
Francisco Cerundolo has had a good year and he will relish the opportunity to play for his country. The 26-year-old won the Croatia Open at the end of July and he beat Musetti in the final so that will give him a huge confidence boost even if that match did take place on clay.
He has played a key role for his country in reaching this stage and was outstanding in the win over Great Britain in the last round. He beat Jack Draper in straight sets to help them progress and he will be hoping to produce the goods in Malaga here.
