Liverpool Preview: History despite inertia

In the last month and a bit or so, Liverpool have perhaps faded a touch in terms of their performance level, coinciding with their elimination from the UEFA Champions League to Paris Saint-Germain and a defeat to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The Reds can win just their second league title in over 30 years, though, as soon as this weekend with Arne Slot’s side having suffered just one loss in the Premier League this season. They defeated Leicester City by a goal to nil last weekend to inflict relegation on the Foxes.

Tottenham Preview: Focus on Europe

Tottenham Hotspur’s season in the league has been a miserable one and reports suggest that, regardless of UEFA Europa League glory whereby they face Norwegian champions Bodo/Glimt in the semi-final in the coming week, that Ange Postecoglou will be departing the club.

Spurs suffered their 18th defeat of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign on Easter Monday last week as they lost by two goals to one at home to Nottingham Forest with Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood scoring early before Richarlison notched a late consolation.

Liverpool Team News: Trent’s return

Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to the Liverpool squad last week and came off the bench to score the winner against Leicester at the King Power Stadium. He suggested that Conor Bradley may not be ready to feature for a full 90 minutes so the England international, reportedly bound for Real Madrid, is expected to come back into the eleven.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz

Unavailable: Gomez (Injured)

Tottenham Team News: Son out

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Anfield, Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that it is 'pretty much' the same squad for this weekend as to the one that was available last week. South Korea international attacker Son Heung-min is progressing but remains sidelined for this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Sarr; Odobert, Richarlison, Tel

Unavailable: Dragusin (Injured), Son (Fitness)

Questionable:

Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction

Liverpool, as mentioned, haven’t been as fluent or as dominant as they would have wanted to be in the last few weeks with motivation levels seemingly and probably reasonably having dipped. They now take on a Spurs side that have endured a very difficult campaign that is now finally getting closer to be over. However, despite their seeming inertia, this is a game that Liverpool will be up for and, at Anfield, are expected to fly out of the traps and dominate a fragile visiting side.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Tip: Liverpool to win -1 handicap
