Liverpool Preview: Fortress Anfield crucial again

Having been victorious in each of their last seven matches in all competitions at Anfield, Liverpool fans will look to play their part again here against a team who have constantly had the better of them in recent years.

As it stands, the Reds top the league phase table as the only club with a 100% record so far, winning four from four and continuing Arne Slot’s dream start at head coach, both domestically and in Europe.

Real Madrid Preview: Reigning champions under pressure

The league phase has not been a happy one for Real Madrid so far, who currently sit in 18th-place heading into this week’s round of matches. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have lost two of their four games so far, most recently being shocked at home by AC Milan, going down 1-3 to the Italians.

However, Los Blancos are unbeaten across their last eight European fixtures against Liverpool, having won seven of those games. You have to go back to 2009 for the last time they were defeated by the Reds.

Liverpool Team News: Alexander-Arnold unlikely to make it back

Conor Bradley is expected to start again at right-back under the assumption that this match comes too soon for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Goalkeeper Alisson, along with attackers Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota are both ruled out, as is left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Diaz, Gakpo

Unavailable: Alisson (Injured), Chiesa (Injured), Jota (Injured), Tsimikas (Injured)

Questionable: Alexander-Arnold (Injured)

Real Madrid Team News: Hamstring injury sidelines Vinicius

Despite playing 90 minutes this past weekend, Vinicius Junior picked up a hamstring injury which is set to keep him out of this game. He joins the likes of Rodrygo, Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal Aurelien Tchouameni and David Alaba on the treatment table, while full-back Lucas Vazquez are fighting to be fit for this crucial game.

Predicted XI (4-3-1-2): Courtois, Vazquez, Rudiger, Asencio, Mendy; Valverde, Camavinga, Modric; Bellingham; Endrick, Mbappe

Unavailable: Alaba (Injured), Carvajal (Injured), Militao (Injured), Rodrygo (Injured), Tchouameni (Injured), Vinicius Junior (Injured)

Questionable: Vazquez (Injured)

Liverpool vs Real Madrid Prediction

Liverpool are the form side in this year’s Champions League, whilst Real Madrid’s inconsistency is proving their achilles heel. With plenty of key players missing through injury, the Spanish champions are vulnerable right now and Liverpoool are in prime position to take advantage, especially with Mohamed Salah among their ranks.

Salah bagged a brace this past Sunday against Southampton and has now scored 12 goals so far in 2024-25. Having already found the net once at Anfield in the Champions League this season, backing him to do so again against Real Madrid appears the smart move.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid Tip: Mohamed Salah to score anytime
