Liverpool Preview: Need to bounce back

It has been a difficult few weeks for Liverpool. Despite the fact they sit comfortably clear at the top-of-the-table, they went into the March international break having dreams of a potential treble ended before reports of Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving this summer strengthened.

After losing to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last month, Liverpool were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League on penalties in the Round of 16 by Paris Saint-Germain a few weeks ago before a defeat to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup final a couple of weeks ago.

Everton Preview: Sticky Toffees

In 19 visits to Anfield as a Premier League manager, David Moyes has not won. However, following his return to Goodison Park, the Toffees have eased themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places and are now unbeaten in their last ten matches.

The Evertonians, as they prepare to move across the city to Bramley-Moore Docks, have drawn their last four games, most recently sharing a 1-1 draw with West Ham United a couple of weeks ago courtesy of a 91st minute equaliser scored by Ireland international Jake O’Brien.

Liverpool Team News: Alisson faces late check

Both Alisson and Ryan Gravenberch sustained injuries over the international break but they have both returned to training this week, albeit Alisson requires a late fitness check ahead of the derby. Trent Alexander-Arnold is out injured, whilst both Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are expected to miss out despite returning to training themselves.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Quansah, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Jota

Unavailable: Alexander-Arnold (Injured)

Questionable: Alisson (Fitness), Gomez (Fitness), Bradley (Fitness), Morton (Injured)

Everton Team News: A few issues remain

David Moyes has confirmed that Vitaliy Mykolenko suffered an injury whilst on international duty with Ukraine but they are hopeful that he will be fit. Both Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil have returned to training with the former further along in his return, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains unavailable due to injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O'Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young; Gueye, Garner; Harrison, Doucoure, Lindstrom; Beto

Unavailable: Mangala (Injured), McNeil (Fitness), Ndiaye (Fitness), Calvert-Lewin (Injured)

Questionable: Mykolenko (Injured)

Liverpool vs Everton Prediction

Performances of Liverpool did dip around December time and into January but their results have now begun to really reflect that. The Reds, for a team that are well clear at the top-of-the-table and have suffered just one defeat in the league this season, have failed to win nine of their 20 matches across all competitions in 2025. Everton have proven themselves a team that are difficult to beat, none more so than their last gasp James Tarkowski equaliser in the reverse fixture between these two back in mid-February. In 45% of their games in this calendar year, Liverpool have failed to win and they now face a side unbeaten in nine. Siding with the visitors may well be good value here.

Liverpool vs Everton Tip: Double chance – Everton to win or draw
