Liudmila Samsonova vs Jasmine Paolini Prediction

Liudmila Samsonova recovered from losing the first set against Daria Kasatkina in the third round by turning the tables and seeing off her compatriot and making it into the round of 16 at Indian Wells for the second time in her career.

This is a welcome run for Samsonova, who has failed to make a real impact in a tournament since she reached the final of the Adelaide International back in January.

Jasmine Paolini reached the last 16 at Indian Wells for the second year in a row courtesy of a battling three-set victory over Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in the third round. The Italian sixth seed is still working her way back to form after an ankle injury but that third-round battle will serve in her good stead as she bids to make the quarter-finals at this event for the first time in her career.

Paolini won six of her nine break points against Cristian and she will likely require a similar level of conversion against Samsonova, who is battled-hardened herself after an impressive comeback victory. Another competitive affair is expected, with Paolini to win in three.
