Lille Preview: Impressive Lille
Over the summer, Paulo Fonseca departed Lille and was replaced by former Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais manager Bruno Genesio. Lille have enjoyed some famous results in Europe in the opening few months with a draw against Juventus a couple of weeks ago following victories against both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
They have also remained impressive domestically as they sit tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. Their entertaining 2-2 draw at the Allianz Riviera a couple of weeks ago means they are unbeaten in their last ten matches across all competitions.
Rennes Preview: Another new era
Over the November international break, Julian Stephan has been relieved of his duties in charge of Stade Rennais after he began his second stint in charge of the club during the November break of 2023. Big spending Rennes have consistently underperformed and they return sitting in the bottom-half of Ligue 1.
They have, though, made the intriguing and exciting appointment of former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli. Known for his intense style of football and pressing methods, Rennes’ well put together squad will be expected to put together some performances and results after their opening 11 games produced 31 goals but only 13 of those were scored by Rennes.

Rennes Team News: Truffert suspension
Jorge Sampaoli is known for his intense pressing style of football which tends to be a 4-2-3-1 shape, which is not a system that Rennes have used this season.
They do have one key absentee for this weekend’s trip to the north to face Lille with versatile key man Adrien Truffert missing through suspension due to too many yellow cards.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Mandanda; Assignon, Wooh, Seidu, Hateboer; Santamaria, Kamara; Blas, Gouiri, Jota; Kalimuendo
Unavailable: Truffert (Suspended)

Lille vs Rennes Prediction
This clash at Stade Pierre-Mauroy is expected to see both teams score. Lille have been in excellent form and are launching themselves towards the coattails of a Ligue 1 title race, whilst Rennes are likely to soon gain a reputation for their intensity in the press meaning the increased chances of risk in the way that they play with Jorge Sampaoli at the helm. Regardless of the match result, it is definitely one worth watching for the neutral.
