- This is the third successive edition of World Cup qualifying that these teams have been drawn in the same group and the fourth overall, they were also paired in the 1998 campaign. North Macedonia won each of their six encounters.
- Liechtenstein have won just two of their previous 70 World Cup qualifying matches. Both of those wins came in the 2006 qualifiers against Luxembourg
- North Macedonia lost only one of their last nine matches in their group in the qualifying competition for Qatar 2022 (W5 D3). They subsequently won 1-0 against Italy in the play-off semi-finals before losing 0-2 against Portugal in the play-off final.
- North Macedonia have won their last five international matches without conceding a goal (all in the UEFA Nations League).
Liechtenstein vs North Macedonia Prediction
The Liechtenstein national team was at a low ebb anyway but has perhaps got worse as many sides have got better with the introduction of the UEFA Nations League. They now face a North Macedonia side that have moved themselves firmly into a middling side in European football.
Liechtenstein come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat at home to the aforementioned San Marino at the Rheinpark Stadion during the November international break. That defeat means that Liechtenstein have now won one, a friendly against Hong Kong in October, of their last 45 matches.
They now face a North Macedonia side that have a developing and emerging squad that boasts the likes of Stole Dimitrievski, Ezgjan Alioski, Enis Bardhi, Eljif Elmas, Aleksandar Trajkovski, Darko Churlinov and Girona striker Bojan Miovski. They gained automatic promotion to League B with five victories and a draw from their six UEFA Nations League matches in the autumn.
North Macedonia qualified for UEFA EURO 2020 and that remains their only major tournament qualification but they will be expected to win this one quite comfortably in Liechtenstein.
