Leylah Fernandez vs Ann Li prediction

Leylah Fernandez has not played on the tour for over a month after losing in the second-round of the Miami Open to Ashlyn Krueger in straight sets. Her best finish so far this season is making the quarter-finals of the Abu Dhabi Open where she lost to Krueger once more. She struggled last season on clay for the most part but did manage to reach the third-round of Roland Garros before losing to Ons Jabeur.

Her opponent in the second-round will be Ann Li. Li defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-3 6-2 to make it through, though still gave up 11 break point opportunities. Nevertheless, she did go on the offensive at times, blasting 27 winners while also recording nine aces. She will need to maintain that strong serve if she is to get past Fernandez.

Fernandez is playing her first clay match of the year and could be slightly rusty, which may encourage Li to go for her shots early on but we still think the Canadian will make it through in three sets.
