Leganes Preview: Resilient but ineffective

Leganes have shown some real fight and resilience this season but it is becoming quite clear that their back-to-back 3-2 losses from winning positions either side of the March international break against Real Betis and Real Madrid may well prove to be defining this season.

The Community of Madrid-based outfit begin this match day sitting tucked inside the bottom three and the relegation places and in desperate need of three points but they did manage to hold Real Mallorca to a goalless draw in the Balearic Islands at the weekend.

Girona Preview: Dipping below low expectations

At the start of this season, following the sale of several key players after they had finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League in just their third ever season in the top-flight, Michel said it would likely be a very difficult campaign for the Catalans.

They had started reasonably but even by the standards set by Michel in August, it has collapsed into something beyond expectations as they form a serious part of the relegation battle, hammered by Real Betis by three goals to one at Montilivi the other day.

Leganes Team News: A few issues

Former Manchester City centre-back Matija Nastasic is a doubt for this one ahead of the visit of Girona, whilst former Rangers left-back Borna Barisic remains sidelined alongside the versatile Enric Franquesa.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Dmitrovic; Rosier, Jorge Saenz, Sergio, Javi Hernandez; Renato Tapia, Oscar; Diomande, Cisse, Altimira; Dani Garcia

Unavailable: Barisic (Injured), Enric Franquesa (Injured)

Questionable: Nastasic (Injured), Yvan Neyou (Injured)

Girona Team News: No Arnau Martinez

Girona have been dealing with a few injury issues and they are now missing the versatile Arnau Martinez for this one. As well as no Arnau Martinez, they remain without former Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil and former Barcelona striker Abel Ruiz.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Paulo Gazzaniga; Alejandro Frances, Krejci, Blind, Miguel Gutierrez; Ivan Martin, Arthur; Tsygankov, Yangel Herrera, Danjuma; Yaser Asprilla

Unavailable: Arnau Martinez (Injured), Ricard Artero (Injured), Bryan Gil (Injured), Abel Ruiz (Injured)

Questionable:

Leganes vs Girona Prediction

Leganes have often been viewed as a defensive team that struggle to score goals but that hasn’t really been the case as their form has collapsed of late, especially in those aforementioned losses to both Betis and Madrid. Their goalless draw with the Majorcans at the weekend may be a suggestion that they have found a way to batten down the hatches, though. They face a Girona side that have lacked any real cohesion at either end of the pitch and Lega, with home advantage and a last chance mentality, may well be the team to be sided with for this one.

Leganes vs Girona Tip: Double chance – Leganes to win or draw
