Lecce Preview: Languishing Lecce
Lecce propelled themselves to safety with a mini ‘great escape’ under the management of the experienced Luca Gotti but he was sacked a few months ago and, despite a slight improvement under Marco Giampaolo, things have turned and they are in the relegation battle once again.
The home team come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat away to Genoa before the March international break in a game whereby the result actually flattered them at the Luigi Ferraris. They have now managed just one win in their last nine matches in Serie A.
Roma Preview: Ranieri’s Romans
Claudio Ranieri came out of retirement in November to become Roma’s third permanent manager of the campaign at that stage as they looked to be hovering around in a relegation battle this season but they have since propelled themselves forward.
The Giallorossi begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top seven and the European spots in Serie A, just a few points away from the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.
Lecce Team News: Illness doubts
Both Marco Sala and Balthazar Pierret were unavailable due to illness a couple of weeks ago. There has been no update but both should be involved for this weekend but both Filip Marchwinski and Joan Gonzalez remain sidelined due to injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Falcone; Guilbert, Baschirotto, Jean, Gallo; Coulibaly, Berisha; Pierotti, Helgason, Tete Morente; Krstovic
Unavailable: Marchwinski (Injured), Joan Gonzalez (Injured)
Questionable: Sala (Illness), Pierret (Illness)
Roma Team News: No Dybala
Roma are dealing with a couple of key injury absentees as defender Devyne Rensch remains sidelined alongside Paulo Dybala. They also have key doubts such as Turkey international Zeki Celik, Saudi Arabia international Saud Abdulhamid and Italy international Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka; Saelemaekers, Kone, Paredes, Angelino; Matias Soule, Baldanzi; Dovbyk
Unavailable: Rensch (Injured), Dybala (Injured)
Questionable: Celik (Injured), Abdulhamid (Injured), Pellegrini (Injured)
Lecce vs Roma Prediction
Lecce’s tactical identity in the last few years have been very reactive and defensive. Marco Giampaolo is perhaps more progressive and interesting than that but, the fact is, it may well be a return to being very defensive that makes them more effective. They do, though, face a Roma side that are expected to continue their good form in the final few weeks of the campaign with the pragmatism of Ranieri.
Lecce vs Roma Tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
