Lazio Preview: A big chance

Former Hellas Verona miracle worker Marco Baroni is in charge of a Lazio side that sit just outside of the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots, behind an impressive Fiorentina side on goal difference.

The home team come into this one on the back of a much-needed 2-1 defeat of Cagliari in Sardinia last weekend. They opened the scoring via Mattia Zaccagni before Roberto Piccoli equalised early on the second-half but Valentin Castellanos then stole all three points.

Monza Preview: On the verge

Despite the sacking of Alessandro Nesta and the appointment of Salvatore Bocchetti with a subsequent minor but brief appointment that followed, Monza have remained underwhelming as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in Serie A.

The visitors have managed just two victories in their 23 matches so far this season as they come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to Hellas Verona last weekend extending their losing streak to four matches.

Lazio Team News: Defensive injuries

Lazio have a few defensive injury issues for this weekend’s visit of Monza as Patric and full-back duo Elseid Hysaj and Luca Pellegrini are all sidelined, whilst former Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is once again a doubt due to a thigh issue.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Gila, Gigot, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Rovella; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Valentin Castellanos

Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Hysaj (Injured), Pellegrini (Injured), Matias Vecino (Injured)

Questionable: Tavares (Injured), Lazzari (Injured)

Monza Team News: Monza’s issues

As well as their difficulties in Serie A, Monza suffered the loss of Warren Bondo to AC Milan during the winter transfer window, whilst winter signing Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro is now also an injury doubt alongside the likes of Luca Caldirola, Danilo D’Ambrosio and Gianluca Caprari.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Pizzignacco; Lekovic, Izzo, Palacios; Pereira, Sensi, Urbanski, Kyriakopoulos; Ciurria, Vignato; Dany Mota

Unavailable: Gagliardini (Injured), Pessina (Injured)

Questionable: Turati (Injured), Caldirola (Injured), D’Ambrosio (Injured), Akpa Akpro (Injured), Birindelli (Injured), Caprari (Injured)

Lazio vs Monza Prediction

Lazio should get themselves on the front foot in this one. They have key issues at the back in terms of injuries so if they are to be attacking against a poor side, that could open them up even more but the fact Monza are so average and lacking in quality means that overly aggressive and attacking style of football is still likely to go unpunished. As a result, a comfortable Lazio victory is to be expected for this one at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio vs Monza Tip: Lazio to win -1 handicap
