Lazio are hanging onto the coattails of the Serie A title race but they need to rediscover some consistency as they take on Cesc Fabregas’ reasonably placed Como this weekend.

Lazio Preview: Marco Baroni needs some form

Marco Baroni and his Lazio side started the season very well and that was perhaps topped by their defeat of Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last weekend but they have been too inconsistent of late to sustain a challenge for the Scudetto.

They come into this one on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in the Derby della Capitale last weekend and that means they have now won just four victories in their last nine matches across all competitions.

Como Preview: Cesc’s Como

After a heavy summer of spending and Cesc Fabregas officially taking the reins following the completion of his coaching badges, avoiding relegation would be a success for Como having gained promotion to the top-flight for the first time in over 60 years last season.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a week off last weekend and most recently defeated Lecce by two goals to nil at the end of 2024 thanks to goals from Nico Paz and Patrick Cutrone as they try and push away from the bottom three and the relegation places.

Lazio Team News: Valentin Castellanos suspension

Former New York City striker Valentin Castellanos is missing through suspension for this weekend after picking up a red card against Roma last weekend, whilst Patric and Matias Vecino are both sidelined through injury for this one.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Tavares; Guendouzi, Rovella; Isaksen, Dele-Bashiru, Zaccagni; Dia

Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Matias Vecino (Injured), Valentin Castellanos (Suspended)

Questionable:

Como Team News: Goldaniga suspension

Experienced midfield duo, Sergi Roberto and Maximo Perrone, who both joined the club in their spending frenzy over the summer, have been injured of late and remain doubtful, whilst Edoardo Goldaniga is missing through suspension for this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pepe Reina; Van Der Brempt, Barba, Kempf, Alberto Moreno; Engelhardt, Da Cunha; Strefezza, Nico Paz, Fadera; Cutrone

Unavailable: Goldaniga (Suspended)

Questionable: Sergi Roberto (Injured), Maximo Perrone (Injured)

Lazio vs Como Prediction

Lazio have quickly fallen into the category of a team that cannot necessarily be trusted because their poor results, albeit mainly against the better sides in Serie A, have also been extended to a draw against Ludogorets Razgrad in the UEFA Europa League and a loss to Parma at the Ennio Tardini. They face a Como side that have been entertaining to watch throughout the campaign regardless of the end match result so quite a fun match for the neutral may be in store at the Olimpico.

Lazio vs Como Tip: Over 2.5 goals
