Las Palmas Preview: Dip in form
Garcia Pimienta departed Las Palmas for Sevilla in the summer with Luis Carrion taking over and struggling before being sacked during the October international break. Winless Las Palmas then immediately majorly improved under Diego Martinez but have since once again dipped.
The Canary Islanders come into this one on the back of collecting just one point from their last four matches in La Liga. The home team most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat to Girona at Montilivi in Catalonia last weekend.
Villarreal Preview: Entertaining Villarreal
In Villarreal’s 22 La Liga matches so far this season, there has been a combined total of 77 goals with Villarreal’s hectic style of football implemented by Marcelino making them very entertaining to watch as they challenge for a top four finish this season.
They begin the weekend sitting just four points behind fourth place Athletic Club after they defeated Real Valladolid by five goals to one at El Madrigal last weekend thanks to goals from Ayoze Perez, Pape Gueye, Santi Comesana, Thierno Barry and Denis Suarez.
Las Palmas Team News: Couple of suspensions
With Dario Essugo heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in January, the Sporting CP loanee is missing through suspension for this weekend alongside attacker Jaime Mata. They also have a few injury issues such as Marvin Park and Jose Campana.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Cillessen; Pelmard, Alex Suarez, McKenna, Mika Marmol; Loiodice, Javier Munoz; Manu Fuster, Kirian Rodriguez, Alberto Moleiro; Silva
Unavailable: Park (Injured), Dario Essugo (Suspended), Jose Campana (Injured), Jaime Mata (Suspended)
Questionable: Viti (Injured), Januzaj (Injured), Sandro (Injured)
Villarreal Team News: No reason to change
Despite strong interest from Unai Emery and Aston Villa, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth remained at Villarreal during the January transfer window. They have no fresh injury concerns but do remain without Morocco international attacking midfielder Ilias Akhomach.
Predicted XI (4-4-2): Conde; Kiko Femenia, Foyth, Kambwala, Sergi Cardona; Yeremy Pino, Gueye, Santi Comesana, Alex Baena; Gerard, Ayoze Perez
Unavailable: Akhomach (Injured)
Questionable: Alfonso Pedraza (Injured)
Las Palmas vs Villarreal Prediction
Diego Martinez is an impressive coach with good pedigree and Las Palmas would have hoped to have kicked on in the second-half of the season but a top-half finish remains feasible with their easy on the eye style of football. That easy on the eye style is expected to mean a fun and entertaining clash at Estadio Gran Canaria here with Villarreal’s chaotic style of football that produces goals at both ends of the pitch so both teams scoring seems extremely likely for this one.
