Larne Preview: Northern Irelanders aiming to give fans something to cheer

It has been a baptism of fire for Larne after their historic qualification to the Conference League group stage as they have had two tough opening matches against Molde and Shamrock Rovers.

They have lost their opening two matches 0-3 and 1-4 so they will be desperate to try keep this one tight and see if they can grind out a result.

They did pick up a much-needed win in the Irish Premiership last time out as they beat Glentoran 2-0 away from home so that will give them some confidence coming into this one.

St. Gallen Preview: Swiss outfit need to put a halt to shipping goals

St Gallen have conceded ten goals in their opening two matches against Cercle Brugge and Fiorentina and while they scored two goals in each of those matches, they are shipping far too many.

The leaky defence has hampered them in the Swiss Super League also as they have not kept a clean sheet in their last nine matches in the domestic league, while they have not won in their last eight in all competitions.

Both teams desperately need a win to have any chance of kicking on in this competition but they will likely approach this match in different ways.

Larne’s best route to victory will be to try keep this one tight and use set pieces and the counter to try create chances. St Gallen will want a shootout as they have much greater firepower than Larne and are capable of scoring.

That should make for an interesting tactical battle but we have to lean towards the Swiss just having the edge in quality. They some talented forwards like Willem Geubbels and Chadrac Akolo and we expect them to have enough firepower to get the win here.
