Kevin Doets made another huge step in his burgeoning career by outlasting Krzysztof Ratajski in a seven-leg thriller on Sunday, surviving four match darts from the Pole and winning the final two sets to book his place in the fourth round on just his second appearance at the PDC World Darts Championship.

Having put in some eye-catching displays in televised tournaments this year, Doets is rapidly rising up the Order of Merit and certainly won’t fear Chris Dobey, especially given the fact he has also eliminated former world champion Michael Smith during his run to the last 16.

In Dobey though, Doets is facing a man who tends to save some of his best darts for the Alexandra Palace stage. ‘Hollywood’ is seeking a third straight quarter-final at the World Championship, and has more than looked the part after registering two fine victories over Alexander Merkx and Josh Rock.

Despite performing admirably so far, this could be a step too far for Doets against a player who is full of confidence right now. Set play appears to bring out the best in Dobey’s game, and the Northumberland thrower can be backed to reach the last eight.
