Karen Khachanov vs Reilly Opelka prediction

Karen Khachanov locks horns with Reilly Opelka in a tussle of big-hitters in Madrid. 

The number 24 seed will feel good about his clay-game following a run to the last four in Barcelona last time out, while Opelka’s hopes of a return to the top 100 were bolstered by a 7-5 7-5 win over Rinky Hijikata in the first round. 

This will be their first ever meeting with the seeded Russian a clear favourite.

Khachanov is a former quarter-finalist in Madrid and has also reached the last eight at Roland-Garros twice. Opelka is less keen on the dirt and he has a surprisingly poor record at this Masters event having only passed the first round on one of his three previous appearances in the Spanish capital. 

With that in mind, Khachanov is a clear pick to progress.
