Karen Khachanov vs Jakub Mensik Prediction

Karen Khachanov ended 2024 in some of the best form of his career but he has yet to really get going in 2025. He is the 22nd-seed in Indian Wells this week and he will be hoping to find some form in the States during the Sunshine Double.

He faces a tough opening match on Saturday as he has been drawn against talented Czech 19-year-old Jakub Mensik. The pair have met once before and that was in the final in Doha just over a year ago. Khachanov won that clash 7-6 6-4 and this second meeting with Mensik will bring back fond memories.

Mensik came through a tricky first-round match over Tomas Etcheverry 6-4 7-6 on Thursday. It was not all plain sailing for him but he did produce the goods at the clutch moments.

That win will help Mensik get some momentum coming into his match and it will likely give him an advantage over Khachanov. His form has arguably been on a par with Khachanov’s and there is little to choose between these two players.

Our preferred play here is on game betting and we anticipate a close encounter. We can fully see one of the sets going to a tiebreak and it would be no surprise if it went to a deciding set.
