Kansas City Chiefs Lowdown

Kansas City Chiefs are one step away from immortality and a slice of sporting history never seen before. No franchise has ever recorded a Super Bowl three-peat, but after winning each of the last two Super Bowls, the Chiefs are just one step away from achieving that feat. The last major American sports team to record a three-peat was the Los Angeles Lakers, who won three NBA championships in 2000-2002, led by the likes of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

In Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City boast a franchise altering QB, who has already led them to four titles since being drafted back in 2017. The 29-year-old could become the first quarter-back ever to win four world championships before the age of 30. He is accompanied by tight-end Travis Kelce, another key pillar of their success although he arguably gains more headlines these days for his relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winning singer Taylor Swift, who is expected to be among the crowd.

Philadelphia Eagles Lowdown

Philadelphia Eagles’ last Super Bowl success came in 2018 when they defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots 33-41 in Minnesota. Since then, they made it back to the big dance in 2023, but Super Bowl LVII ended in heartbreak for the Birds as Kansas City beat them 35-38 in an absolute thriller. Jalen Hurts was Philadelphia’s QB back then and the 26-year-old returns for another crack at Patrick Mahomes here in New Orleans.

The big difference between the 2023 and 2025 Eagles is the addition of RB Saquon Barkley. Signed in the off-season after six years at NFC East rivals New York Giants, Barkley has added an extra dimension to Philly’s offence and already boasts 442 rushing yards this post-season. Meanwhile, the controversial ‘Tush-Push’ play has proven as effective as ever despite the retirement of center Jason Kelce. Travis’ brother will be supporting his old team at Super Bowl LIX, whilst his position has been admirably filled by newly crowned Pro Bowler Cam Jurgens.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles Expert Prediction

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid got the better of his old side in 2023, but in Super Bowl LIX, Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles are confident of a different outcome. Barkley’s presence is a huge factor in that and the notoriously strong Chiefs defence masterminded by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be tested to their limits.

But on the flip-side, Kansas City know they can outscore the Eagles like they can any team when Patrick Mahomes is at his best, consistently making clutch plays and taking games away from his opponents whether it be via his deadly accurate throws, or his ability to run the ball under pressure.

Most importantly of all though, the Chiefs just know how to win in this situation. When it matters, they always seem to find a way whether it be via offence or defence and that cannot be underestimated no matter how strong Philly are. Mahomes, Kelce and co were talking about a three-peat straight after winning Super Bowl LVIII last year and it’s well worth backing them to make it a reality.
