Jose Johnson: No Way Jose aiming to bounce back from June loss
Jose Johnson (16-9) has found life in the UFC somewhat challenging since he graduated through Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2022. He has lost two of his three fights in the Octagon, including his last fight against Asu Almabaev last June. The experienced flyweight had won nine of his 11 fights before entering the UFC but he has not had easy fights in the Octagon. He lost to Da’Mon Blackshear but responded well to beat Chad Anheliger in November 2023. This is a big fight for him and his future prospects.
Felipe Bunes: Brazilian veteran desperate to get first UFC win in second fight
Felipinho (13-7) was handed a golden opportunity to make his UFC debut last time out at UFC Fight Night 234 almost a year ago against Joshua Van but he suffered a TKO loss. The 35-year-old had been fighting in the LFA and previously other smaller promotions before joining the UFC but has earned his shot despite his advancing years. It is hard to imagine he will be given too many opportunities so he really does need to get a win here against Johnson after his knockout loss.
Jose Johnson vs Felipe Bunes Prediction
Two veterans meet in the flyweight division and this will be an entertaining match at the very least with plenty on the line for both fighters.
Both are advancing in years but it is Johnson who has the edge in higher-quality experience coming into this one. He has a fraction more momentum coming into this one against Bunes who has lost five of his last eight bouts.
Bunes is a threat with is submissions while Johnson has the stand-up game to trouble anybody. Whichever fighter can earn more Octagon control and potentially edge the grappling could well decide this one.
We marginally go with Johnson but there is not much separating the pair. Expect a close fight and we just lean towards Johnson and the fight going the distance.
Prediction: Fight to go the distance
