Jordan Thompson vs Dominik Koepfer Prediction
For a player of his calibre, Jordan Thompson has significantly underperformed at his own country's Grand Slam with the Australian having never gone beyond the second round in Melbourne, despite the fact he has featured in the main draw on 11 previous occasions.
Assuming he can overcome a calf injury that forced him to retire against Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International last week, Thompson should be feeling confident about his chances of breaking new ground after a year which saw him pick up his first ATP title at the Los Cabos Open.
Not since the 2023 Australian Open has Dominik Koepfer gone beyond the first round of a Grand Slam, with the German having slipped outside the top 100 after being a top-50 player in early 2023.
More successful as a Doubles player these days, the 30-year-old needed to come through three rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw this year, and certainly didn’t do it the easy way as he was incredibly close to going out to Ignacio Buse at the first hurdle.
For one reason or another, Jordan Thompson has struggled in front of his own crowd but Koepfer represents a player he should beat, although it may not be without a wobble or two.
