Jonny Clayton vs Gerwyn Price Prediction
The fourth round gets underway with a real high-quality match-up as Jonny Clayton faces off against compatriot Gerwyn Price in an all-Welsh encounter.
These two have met on plenty of previous occasions with Price dominating the head-to-head 14-7. Most crucially, Price has won nine of the last ten meetings and there may be a psychological edge in his favour.
Clayton fought through a tough match in the last round as he had to dig deep to beat Darly Gurney 4-3. He averaged less than Gurney (90.11 compared to 92.60) but he came through at the crucial moment to progress.
He will likely need to do better if he is to overcome Gerwyn Price however. The Iceman had an equally tough battle against Joe Cullen that went to sudden death in the final set but he just came through it at the last moment. That was in spite of a miserable checkout percentage of 31% (18/58) as he struggled to hit his favoured double top throughout.
It is hard to imagine Price will play as poorly and struggle on the doubles as much as he did in that match. His scoring was strong with 13 maximums and he will be hoping to move on from those troubles.
We like his chances of overpowering Clayton in this one. Clayton is certainly capable of beating him but we just prefer Price’s grit and determination to win here.
