Jonathan Micallef: The Captain looking to make mark on UFC debut

Jonathan Micallef (7-1) is making is UFC debut after earning his shot via Dana White’ Contender Series. The Melbourne native submitted Mohamed Ado in their fight in October and gets a quick turnaround in order to fight on this card in Sydney. The 25-year-old has spent most of his career in the Hex Fight Series but now he gets a chance in the big time to make an impact.

Kevin Jousset: French veteran coming off TKO loss last time out

Kevin Jousset (10-3) is coming off a TKO loss at the hands of Bryan Battle last time out so the veteran will be hoping to bounce back here. That was just the third loss in his career and it has dampened the momentum he had after winning his first two bouts in the UFC. Prior to that, he too, was fighting in the Hex Fight Series like Micallef but their paths never crossed. Jousset was the welterweight champion before he got his shot in the UFC.

Jonathan Micallef vs Kevin Jousset Prediction

We have an interesting welterweight match-up next with Australia’s Jonathan Micallef facing off against France’s Kevin Jousset who fights out of New Zealand.

Jousset had been making waves on his arrival in the UFC winning his first two fights but his momentum was halted by Bryan Battle last time out.

Micallef is making his debut and this is unquestionably the toughest test of his career so far. The UFC matchmakers have thrown him in at the deep end and this is a really tough debut fight.

Micallef has potential but we have to favour Jousset here even though he is coming off a TKO loss. The veteran is really well-rounded and assuming he is not too impacted by that loss and the relatively quick turnaround from September, we like Jousset’s chances of grinding this out and taking the decision.

Prediction: Kevin Jousset to win by decision
