Jon Jones: The GOAT returns to make yet more history

Jon Jones (27-1 with one no contest) will fight for just the second time in four and a half years as he takes on Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 on Saturday in Madison Square Garden. Arguably the greatest fighter of all time, Jones won the heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane UFC 285 just over 18 months ago. He will now look to cement his legacy further by beating another UFC legend in a fight that was initially scheduled 12 months ago that was postponed due to Jones sustaining a pectoral injury.

Stipe Miocic: UFC legend looks to cement legacy

Stipe Miocic (20-4) is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters the UFC has ever seen. The 42-year-old has achieved all kinds of milestones in the Octagon until now faces a mammoth task in meeting pound-for-pound star Jon Jones. Inactivity could be a factor for Miocic as he has not fought for three years since being knocked out by Francis Ngannou which saw him lose the belt. It will be some feat if Miocic can return after so long and beat Jon Jones but he should never be underestimated as he has proven so often.

Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic Prediction

What a main event we have in store at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden as legends Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic meet for the UFC's heavyweight title.

Neither fighter has fought much in the last few years and while they are experienced enough to handle any rust, it always brings the possibility of an upset.

Miocic is a major underdog in this fight and it would be remarkable if he somehow managed to win after three and a half years out of action.

Jones has hardly thought himself in recent years and after such a long career and having made so much money, one has to wonder whether he still has the hunger.

It is hard to see the older man exposing that however. Jones has developed into a heavyweight frame and he is by far the better technical fighter. Miocic is always capable of knocking anybody out but Jones will not be taking any risks.

We do not see anywhere in which this fight goes anywhere near the distance and we fully expect Jones to get the stoppage in the first few rounds.

Prediction: Jon Jones to win by stoppage
