John Higgins vs Mark Williams prediction
John Higgins had to use all his experience to overcome Xiao Guodong in the second round, winning a final-frame decider to reach the last eight at the Crucible for the 19th time in his career.
The four-time champion, whose last world title came in 2011, had earlier wasted some good opportunities to seal the win against Guodong but fired in a fearless 75 in trademark fashion in the deciding frame.
Fellow ‘Class of 92’ member Mark Williams became the oldest Crucible quarter-finalist for 15 years with a 13-10 victory over Hossein Vafaei in the second round, and will now face Higgins for the 67th time in his career.
50-year-old Williams is showing no signs of the eyesight trouble that has been plaguing him this season, and despite the fact he has a losing career head-to-head score against his fellow veteran, he has crucially won four of their five Crucible meetings.
The Sheffield crowd could be in for another cracking match between these two snooker legends, and one that is likely to go over 21.5 frames.
John Higgins vs Mark Williams tip: Over 21.5 frames
