2024 Next Gen Finals winner Joao Fonseca continues to shine and he is enjoying a great start to 2025. The 18-year-old was something of a revelation in the Australian Open as he eliminated Andrey Rublev and now he switches to clay in Argentina.

He produced a strong display to beat Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3 6-3 on Wednesday and that will only serve to give him yet more confidence.

He now meets veteran Argentine Federico Coria who lost in qualifying but was handed a lucky loser reprieve. He then overcame Hugo Gaston in the first round to earn his place in the round of 16.

He played pretty well in beating Gaston but Fonseca will be a different proposition. We like the Brazilian’s chances here of getting the win and making it through to the quarters.
