Jiri Lehecka vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction

The first semi-final in Belgrade sees Jiri Lehecka meet Denis Shapovalov and both players will be thinking that if they can win this, they have a great chance of winning the title.

Lehecka is the fourth seed in Serbia this week and he is playing well and with good motivation. He is clearly trying to rack up some ranking points to make up for the time he was out injured and winning this week is clearly a target for him.

He came through a tough quarter-final on Thursday morning against Lukas Klein and he can take good confidence from that. He lost the first set but bounced back well and won the second and third. He would have hoped to have made it a little easier for himself and only managed to take two of the ten break points he generated but he will be pleased overall.

He meets Canada’s Denis Shapovalov who had no issues in dispatching of Christopher O’Connell on Thursday. He dominated 6-2 6-2, won an impressive 91% on his first serve and restricted O’Connell to winning just nine points on his serve.

The 25-year-old has won five matches to reach this stage having come through qualifying so he really has had to do it the hard way while Lehecka has played just two. That could well catch up on Shapovalov potentially especially if this match goes the distance as it could easily do so.

Shapovalov will be confident but Lehecka will fancy his chances. They have played once before in 2022 and a young Lehecka won that match 6-4 6-4. We just edge him to have that extra bit of energy to get the win, potentially in three sets here.
