Jessika Ponchet defeated Fiona Ferro 7-6 6-4 to make the last eight in Rouen. She won a commanding 78% of points on her first serve on her way to victory. The lucky loser is now into her first ever tour-level quarter-final and takes on Elena-Gabriela Ruse for a place in the semi-finals.

Ruse easily dispatched of Italy’s Camilla Rosatello with a 6-0 6-4 victory. Ruse made a flying start to the match and backed that up in the second as she claimed a dominant victory. The Romanian has now won six of her last seven matches and must be confident heading into the latter part of the tournament. 

We’re backing the Romanian to make it through. She’s in good form right now and has the game to outlast Ponchet and book her passage into the semis. Ponchet has enjoyed something of a breakthrough tournament and could cause some problems, but we believe Ruse is good value to win in three sets.
