Jessica Pegula vs Sofia Kenin prediction

Jessica Pegula once again battled through to make the final of the Charleston Open, defeating Elena Alexandrova 6-2 2-6 7-5. The American top seed twice went a break down in the final set but came back to win. She had lost at the semi-final stage of the two previous editions of this tournament but can now look forward to her second final of the season so far, where a win would see her go up to world number three.

Sofia Kenin will be her opponent, as number eight seed Amanda Anisimova had to withdraw during the first set due to a hip injury. Kenin was leading 5-2 when Anisimova retired. Kenin has enjoyed a fine run to the final, with four successive wins over seeded players.

Pegula does lead the head-to-head 3-2, with their most recent match being the second round of the US Open last year, where the world number four defeated Kenin en route to her first Grand Slam singles final.

However, Kenin has won their only match on clay, at the French Open four years ago. This could be a tight match but we’re backing Pegula to pull through and win.
