Jessica Pegula vs Iryna Shymanovich prediction

Jessica Pegula is the top seed at the Charleston Open and received a bye in the first round. She is coming off the back of a strong showing at the Miami Open, where she reached the final before losing to world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets. She has already tasted victory this season with a win at the ATX Open.

She begins her clay court season here and will hope to improve from her finish last season, where she was also the top seed. Pegula reached the semi-finals before losing to Daria Kasatkina in three close sets. 

She has made just one clay court final in her career on the WTA Tour, in May 2022 where she lost to Ons Jabeur, but Pegula still has the credentials for a strong run here in Charleston.

Iryna Shymanovich won a mammoth first set tie-break against Heather Watson before going on to win 7-6 6-4 to advance through to the second round, but we believe the world number 215 will prove to be no match for Pegula.
