Jessica Pegula vs Alexandra Eala Prediction
Jessica Pegula is enjoying the Sunshine Double as she so often does and she has now made the semi-final in Miami for a third time. She has lost in her two previous visits to the semis but she has a golden opportunity this time around as she faces the unseeded Alexandra Eala.
Pegula came through a tough three-set match against Britain’s Emma Raducanu on Wednesday night and while she has not been at her best, she is still playing consistently high-quality tennis to date. That may be enough in this match but it will not be for whoever she comes up against in the final especially if it is Sabalenka.
Eala will be no pushover however and the 19-year-old from the Philippines is enjoying an incredible time in Miami. Not only has she broken into the world’s top 100 this week, but the calibre of player she has beaten has been so impressive. Many expected her run to come to an end in the quarters against Iga Swiatek but Eala pulled off a 6-2 7-5 win. That is now four seeds she has beaten this week after wins over Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, a walkover win over Paula Badosa and then Swiatek.
Eala’s return play has been outstanding this week and that has been the key to her success. This will be the toughest test for her so far against Pegula who is serving well this week.
We can see this being something of a see-saw battle with several breaks exchanged. We ultimately think Pegula’s consistency and stamina will be enough to break Eala down in a match that could well go three sets.
