Jessica Bouzas Maneiro took advantage of Maria Sakkari’s continued struggles to make it through to the next round. She won 6-0 3-6 6-3 to set up a match with Varvara Gracheva. She blasted 34 winners during the match and recovered from something of a slump in the second set to advance.

Gracheva picked up a fine win in her first-round match against Briton Sonay Kartal, winning 6-2 6-3. She managed to break Kartal’s serve on five occasions while also creating another seven opportunities on her opponent’s serve.
