Jenson Brooksby’s return to elite tennis continues to gather pace in Houston.

The 24-year-old American was ranked at 33 in the world two years ago but a wrist operation, more injuries and a ban due to a missed drugs test saw him disappear from the circuit - until now. 

The American has picked up some solid wins on hard courts since the Australian Open and has settled well on the clay in Houston. 

Brooksby defeated Federico Agustin Gomez 3-6 7-6 6-4 and Patrick Maloney 6-4 6-2 in qualifying to set up a clash with world number 124 Daniel.

The Japanese veteran has been heading in the wrong direction over the past year, falling from the cusp of the top 50 and failing to make much impact this season. 

Disappointing defeats in qualifying at Indian Wells and Miami have left him struggling for momentum with a defeat to world number 685 Darwin Blanch in his last match meaning a move to clay may be the reset he needs.

However, we are tipping Brooksby’s variety to come up trumps and continue his push back up the rankings.
