Jenson Brooksby vs Aleksandar Kovacevic prediction
Jenson Brooksby’s wild ride in Houston continues after the world number 507 once again won through from triple match-point down to claw his way to the quarter-finals.
The American made it four wins on the spin at the expense of third seed Alejandro Tabilo as he surged back from 3-6 down in the final set tie-break to reel off five points in succession and snatch a 3-6 6-4 7-6 victory.
Brooksby had also swatted away a match point in his first qualifying clash against Federico Agustin Gomez and his fearless approach has carried him all the way to becoming the lowest ranked player to make the last eight in the tournament’s history.
The 24-year-old now meets compatriot Aleksandar Kovacevic who has been in imperious form at the River Oaks Country Club.
The world number 79 has won seven of his last eight matches and has yet to drop serve across his two in Houston, saving six out of six break points faced.
A strong 6-3 6-3 victory over French qualifier Corentin Denolly saw Kovacevic win an exceptional 90% of his first serve points and he will be full of confidence and fresh against a battle-worn Brooksby.
This could go either way but it’s tough to bet against former world number 33 Brooksby, who has the tools and unorthodox style to cause plenty of problems, not to mention the propensity for coming up clutch in big, big moments already this week.
