Jasmine Paolini vs Karolina Muchova Prediction
Italy were on fire in the group stage as they won both of their ties against Switzerland and France by a 3-0 scoreline. They only dropped one set in the six matches and won all of their matches which is an ominous warning for the rest of the countries left in the competition.
Jasmine Paolini was in impressive form herself as she beat Belinda Bencic 6-1 6-1 and then Chloe Paquet 6-0 6-2 so she will be high on confidence coming into this clash with Karolina Muchova.
Muchova has been playing pretty well so far in this tournament as she picked up one comprehensive win over Malene Helgo 6-1 6-0 but then lost to Iga Swiatek 6-3 6-4.
She has an excellent record against Paolini however and she will look to that for inspiration in this match. They have met on four previous occasions and Muchova has won all four times. The last of which came at the US Open with a 6-3 6-3 scoreline and Muchova has only ever dropped one set to Paolini.
That head-to-head record could well give more signal than most ahead of this match. Muchova clearly has an edge over Paolini and the fact she beat her so recently in New York, suggests that is still the case. We like her chances in this one to inflict Italy’s first defeat in this edition of the tournament.
