Jannik Sinner vs Nicolas Jarry Prediction

World number one Jannik Sinner returns to action for the first time in 2025 looking to put a marker down in the first Grand Slam of the year. After ending 2024 in sensational form winning four of his last five tournaments and helping Italy win the Davis Cup once again, he looked virtually unbeatable and set an incredibly high bar.

The Australian Open last year was his very first Grand Slam victory and now the challenge is defending it. He has had good rest since the Davis Cup exploits but otherwise he has not played any competitive tennis since then. He will have to hit the ground running but he will be finely runed and ready to go here.

He kicks off against Chile’s Nicolas Jarry who does not have a great record at the Australian Open. He has only ever won one match in Melbourne and that came in 2023 but that one appearance in the second round is the best he has had.

Jarry did manage to beat Sinner all the way back in 2019 but that was against an 18-year-old version of Sinner. Sinner did win their only other meeting last year in Beijing and he should ease to victory here too. We would not rule out Jarry winning a set, but it is hard to see anything more than that.
