Jan-Lennard Struff vs Gael Monfils Prediction

Jan-Lennard Struff picked up a win against Yunchaokete 6-3 6-4 to progress and now the German meets Gael Monfils.

Struff’s serve was on point in the first round as he blasted 13 aces and it could have been far more comprehensive had he been more efficient on his 11 break point opportunities as he only converted three of them.

He will have to be more ruthless against Monfils as it is unlikely he will have as many opportunities against the French veteran.

Monfils continues to defy the years and the 38-year-old did well to fightback from losing the first set against Pedro Martinez to win the second and third set. He too will know he needs to sharpen things up here but he is capable of doing just that.

He beat Nishesh Basavareddy last week in Brisbane before being eliminated by Novak Djokovic and he will be confident against Struff. They have met twice before – albeit in 2014 and 2018 – and Monfils won both encounters. We are backing him to make it three from three.
