Jake Matthews: Aussie looking for back-to-back wins for first time since 2020
Jake Matthews (20-7) has had a mixed time in the last couple of years as one win has been followed by a defeat and he has not been able to string back-to-back wins together since 2020. He comes off an excellent unanimous decision victory over Philip Rowe at UFC 302 and now he will look to build on that in front of his home fans. The Melbourne native returns to Australia to fight for the first time since 2020.
Francisco Prado: Argentine talent looking to bounce back from loss
Francisco Prado (12-2) has found life in the UFC to be tough as he has won one and lost two since joining the organisation. After losing his debut fight to Jamie Mullarkey by decision, he bounced back with an emphatic knockout of Ottman Azaitar to earn his first victory. He then faced a step up in calibre as he met Daniel Zellhuber at UFC Fight Night 237 a year ago and he lost another unanimous decision.
Jake Matthews vs Francisco Prado Prediction
We have an intriguing bout to get the main card underway at UFC 312 as Australia’s Jake Matthews takes on Argentina’s Francisco Pardo.
Matthews has been in the UFC for years and his career has fluctuated in recent years as he has faced a better level of quality. In front of his home fans, he will be desperate to win here.
Prado had a reputation of something of a killer before joining the organisation. All 12 of his wins have come via stoppage but his gas tank appears to be a weakness if an opponent manages to take him the distance.
That will be a clear route to victory for Matthews. While he will have to avoid Prado’s power, he can do that and control the fight to grind out a decision win here.
Prediction: Jake Matthews to win by decision
