Ipswich Preview: Tractor Boys need to get moving
Following back-to-back automatic promotions from League One to the Premier League, it was always expected to be a struggle for Ipswich Town but their performances have been impressive without getting the results, having managed one win with six draws and six defeats in their opening 13 games of the season.
The hosts come into this one on the back of perhaps their worst performance of the campaign as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at the weekend courtesy of a second-half penalty from New Zealand international Chris Wood but the 1-0 scoreline did flatter Ipswich in that one.
Crystal Palace Preview: Last gasp Eagles equaliser
Oliver Glasner propelled relegation-threatened Crystal Palace to a top-half finish in the back end of last season but the Eagles have struggled badly at the start of this campaign with just one win thus far, despite their progression into the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup to be played later this month.
At the weekend, Palace hosted Newcastle United and, in a game with very few chances, managed to snatch a point. Newcastle had gone ahead in the second-half when Marc Guehi turned the ball into his own net at the end of a slick Newcastle set-piece before Daniel Munoz, guilty of missing a sitter in the first-half, notched in the 94th minute to rescue a result.
Ipswich Team News: A few key doubts
Ipswich spent around £100 million over the summer to build a deep squad that is now much needed as we head into the very busy festive schedule over the next few weeks.
Key men such as Jacob Greaves and Kalvin Phillips, who both joined, are both still doubtful, whilst Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene is expected to miss the entire season.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Muric; Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Burns, Hutchinson, Szmodics; Delap
Unavailable: Hirst (Injured), Ogbene (Injured)
Questionable: Greaves (Fitness), Johnson (Injured), Phillips (Fitness), Broadhead (Fitness)
Crystal Palace Team News: Finding a formula
A couple of weeks ago, Northern Ireland international Justin Devenny scored on full debut against Aston Villa but he found himself back on the bench at the weekend.
Palace are close to welcoming Adam Wharton back from injury whilst summer signings Chadi Riad and Daichi Kamada remain sidelined through injury and suspension respectively.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Chalobah, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Doucoure, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Nketiah
Unavailable: Riad (Injured), Kamada (Suspended), Wharton (Injured), Franca (Injured)
Questionable: Holding (Out of favour)
Ipswich vs Crystal Palace Prediction
Ipswich’s squad is the one with the least top-flight experience in this season’s Premier League and, by some distance, cost the least to assemble in terms of transfer fees. It is therefore already an achievement for them to head into games against established sides where the neutral will see it as a tough assignment for the established side. Palace haven’t rediscovered what made them so strong at the end of last season but have slowly improved. Even with that said, it still seems a good value bet to side with the hosts for this one.
Ipswich vs Crystal Palace Tip: Double chance – Ipswich to win or draw
