Inter Milan Preview: From a treble to potentially trophyless
About a week ago, after reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with a 4-3 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich, Internazionale now look as though they could quite feasibly end the season without a trophy, rather than the treble that they were chasing.
The Nerazzurri were beaten 3-0 by Derby della Madonnina rivals AC Milan in the second-leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final and that came on the back of a last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Bologna at the Renato Dall’Ara as they now sit level on points with Napoli at the top of Serie A.
Roma Preview: Ranieri’s Romans
Ever since coming out of retirement to become Roma’s third permanent manager of the season during the November international break, Claudio Ranieri has majorly improved the Giallorossi as they now challenge for a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification.
The Romans come into this one on the back of a continuation of their good form with a typically slender 1-0 defeat of Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend now meaning they are unbeaten in their last 17 matches in Serie A since losing to Como before Christmas.
Inter Milan Team News: Couple of suspensions
Ahead of the visit of Roma to San Siro this weekend, Internazionale are now without two key players due to suspension, such as Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. They also have key injury doubts, too, such as Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Thuram.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, De Vrij; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Frattesi, Dimarco; Lautaro Martinez, Taremi
Unavailable: Bastoni (Suspended), Mkhitaryan (Suspended), Carboni (Injured)
Questionable: Dumfries (Injured), Zielinski (Injured), Thuram (Injured)
Roma Team News: A few injuries
Roma are dealing with a few injury issues for this weekend’s trip to Milan as Argentina international attacker Paulo Dybala remains sidelined alongside defender Victor Nelsson, whilst Saudi Arabia international defender Saud Abdulhamid is also a doubt.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka; Saelemaekers, Cristante, Kone, Angelino; Matias Soule, Baldanzi; Shomurodov
Unavailable: Nelsson (Injured), Dybala (Injured)
Questionable: Abdulhamid (Injured)
Inter Milan vs Roma Prediction
Internazionale’s results were good but their performances were average and that performance level may well have caught up with them in the last week or so and they are looking at what would be a fairly miserable collapse at the moment. Roma have been improved but they have done so by being extremely difficult to play against and even score against. Regardless of what the end result is of this crucial clash at San Siro, it should well be a low-scoring affair.
Inter Milan vs Roma Tip: Under 2.5 goals
