INTER MILAN PREVIEW: INTRICATE INTER

Simone Inzaghi’s Internazionale come into this one on the back of rotating their impressive squad and yet still defeating Arsenal by a goal to nil at San Siro in the UEFA Champions League in midweek with a winning penalty scored by Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri haven’t been as dominant or as convincing as they were last season as they romped to their 20th Scudetto and a second star upon the badge but still begin the weekend sitting just a point behind Napoli at the top-of-the-table.

NAPOLI PREVIEW: DOGGED AND DETERMINED

After a summer of typical Antonio Conte whinging, Napoli did invest heavily into a squad that won the Italian title as recently as the 2022/23 campaign and, after a 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona on the opening weekend, they have propelled themselves to the top.

They have an abundance of impressive attacking talent but have been focused on being very tight defensively. However, they head up to Milan on the back of being hammered 3-0 by Atalanta at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona last weekend.

INTER MILAN TEAM NEWS: BACK TO FULL STRENGTH

Carlos Augusto is out injured but Inter will be able to go back to a full strength side this weekend after, as mentioned, making a few changes against Arsenal the other day.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Mkhitaryan, Calhanoglu, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez

UNAVAILABLE: Carlos Augusto (Injured)

NAPOLI TEAM NEWS: NO FOLORUNSHO

Former Hellas Verona midfielder Michael Folorunsho has picked up a muscle injury but Napoli have a deep squad and that is especially shown in the midfield.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Mathias Olivera; Anguissa, Gilmour, McTominay; Politano, Lukaku, Kvaratskhelia

UNAVAILABLE: Folorunsho (Injured)

INTER MILAN VS NAPOLI PREDICTION

This could well be a bit of a classic in terms of the meaning of the match for the league table but the fact remains that it is a game between two sides that will prioritise safety first and not losing. Inter have quite a defensive setup this season with intricacy in attacking areas, whilst Conte and Napoli have reverted almost to the stereotype of a Conte side so a low-scoring affair in quite a tense contest is expected on Sunday.
