Inter Milan Preview: Winning mentality

Internazionale are the defending Serie A champions and are arguably still favourites for the Italian title this season despite heading into the winter break sitting third in Serie A behind both Napoli and their upcoming opponents Atalanta at this stage.

They do, though, come into this one on the back of rediscovering their excellent and efficient form from last season with the Nerazzurri hammering Cagliari by three goals to nil in Sardinia at the weekend to mean they have now enjoyed five successive domestic victories.

Atalanta Preview: A potential fairytale season

Gian Piero Gasperini won his first trophy as Atalanta boss in the 2023/24 campaign as the Bergamasci won the UEFA Europa League and now La Dea are looking to create history this season as they sit at the top-of-the-table in Serie A.

Their performances have been wobbling a little of late but they did rescue a late point against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico the other day just a week after they had needed to score late to come from behind and defeat Empoli by three goals to two in Bergamo, too.

Inter Milan Team News: Defensive injuries

Inter are dealing with several injury issues at the back ahead of their clash with Atalanta. Experienced utility man Matteo Darmian remains sidelined alongside fellow defenders Francesco Acerbi and Benjamin Pavard as well as back-up goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro.

Atalanta Team News: Attacking injuries

Gianluca Scamacca was reportedly nearing a return to full fitness after suffering an ACL injury over the summer but the former West Ham United striker remains sidelined for this one alongside fellow Italy international attacker Mateo Retegui.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta Prediction

Inter Milan have been excellent over recent seasons and after being a little underwhelming in the opening couple of months of this campaign, at least in terms of performance level, Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri have propelled themselves back to the level that saw them romp to their 20th Scudetto last season. They face an Atalanta side that have a deep squad but are perhaps showing a couple of cracks they could do with easing over during the winter break so motivation may not be there for this one with a bet for Inter looking the safest way to go.
