India Betting Analysis
A number of big-name players return to the fold for India in this ODI series, such as captain Rohit Sharma, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and superstar batter Virat Kohli. The latter hasn’t played any cricket since the Border-Gavaskar trophy series in Australia and the time off has come at a good time for Kohli, allowing him to recharge his batteries ahead of another big major ICC tournament. Kohli is a true master of the 50-over format, boasting an average of 58.18 in ODIs including 50 hundreds and 72 fifties. Back the 36-year-old with a stake on him to finish as India’s top batter in Nagpur.
England Betting Analysis
Making his return to 50-over cricket for the first time since the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, Joe Root is set to bat at number three for England in this first ODI. He arrives in good form, having racked up 279 runs across eight innings for Paarl Royals, including three half-centuries in what was a hugely successful SA20 stint. Whilst this represents a change in format, Root’s temperament should see him make a smooth transition and his excellence in sub-continental conditions make him a big candidate to score highly here. On the same ground where he made his Test debut back in 2012, striking 93 runs over the course of two innings, Root is well worth backing to score a fifty in this game.
India vs England Expert Prediction
England have only bad recent memories of playing 50-over cricket in India, having endured a nightmare World Cup campaign in 2023 which saw them dumped out in the group stage, winning just three of their nine games, which India boasted a perfect record of nine from nine.
With both nations preparing for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, expect a hard-fight contest, but England playing in the sub-continent against high quality spin in scorching heat doesn’t normally end well from their perspective, so back India to draw first blood.
